At Maya, we take a holistic and realistic approach to wellness, supporting the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being of every resident.
Activities are designed with flexibility in mind and vary week to week based on interest, ability, and participation. Our Wellness Coordinator devotes at least 4 hours each week to engaging residents in personalized group and one-on-one sessions.
1. Physical Wellness
– Gentle chair yoga and stretching
– Balance & mobility games (e.g., balloon volleyball, bean bag toss)
– Indoor or outdoor group walks (weather permitting)
– Light rhythmic dance sessions
2. Emotional & Mental Wellness
– Guided meditation and breathing

– Story-sharing circles
– Relaxation with scented towels or essential oils
3. Cognitive Stimulation
– Trivia and quiz games
– Word puzzles, crosswords, and Scrabble
– Current events coffee chats
– Show & Tell from residents
– Reminiscence therapy using old photos and videos
4. Creative Activities
– Art and seasonal crafts
– Music-making with simple instruments
– Gardening in pots or raised beds
– Holiday and event decorating (e.g., Canada Day)
5. Weekly Happy Hour
– Optional wine, beer, or mocktails
– Light snacks like fruit, cheese, or crackers
– Music, themed decorations, and sing-alongs
– A time to celebrate birthdays and special moments together
6. Community Connections
– Visits from local high school students for intergenerational games, crafts, and conversation
– Pet therapy visits with gentle, certified animals
– Themed days and special events that bring everyone together
